Marco Roos, a Rotterdam native, is the founder and CEO of ColorBase, the renowned print industry partner that is building the digital foundation for a smarter printing industry. Marco fostered an interest in IT and software development at a young age, and when the first digital printing systems were introduced in the CAD and GIS market, he quickly became an expert in color management and large format inkjet printing. In 2003 he started Color Concepts (since rebranded to ColorBase), at first as a consultant, but quickly understood that being the ‘guru’ - traveling the world, training and advising companies one by one - wasn’t a very sustainable business model. To solve this, Marco established a home base for Color Concepts by launching the company’s first print lab in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. This quickly grew into the largest independent testing facility for large format inkjet printers in the world. In 2014 he moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, to open up a second office and lab in the US market, and has split his time evenly between the US and Rotterdam ever since.
His interest in IT and software development never entirely disappeared, and in 2010 he established the ColorBase database - a cloud solution leveraging the companies’ growing data set, connecting hundreds of thousands of manufacturers, innovators, and print shops across the industry. Today, ColorBase digital services are used by all major vendors in the large format printing sector and are leading the way in standardisation, data collection and the development of new ecosystems for material sales and marketing. The company’s committed focus to its ColorBase line of software services triggered the rebrand from Color Concepts to ColorBase in early 2023. Marco is primarily responsible for innovation and the development of new business models and concepts, and leads a young and vibrant team from the Rotterdam office.
